Phase 3 · FREEDOM MARTIAL ARTS

Black Belt Training CURRENT CURRICULUM.

The Black Belt pathway connects a meaningful achievement with the responsibility to keep growing. Students refine timing, control and consistency while building maturity, accountability and leadership. Continued training includes setting new goals, remaining open to coaching and contributing to a positive Studio environment. As students progress, encouragement, respect and dependable effort become part of the example they set for others.

CURRENT TRAINING CYCLE

WHAT WE’RE WORKING ON.

Kicks

Front kicks, jump kicks, tornado front kick

Review front kicks 1-5 and jump front kicks. Develop the tornado front kick through the preparation and progressions taught in class.

Form

Po Eun, entire form

Work through the complete form. Refine short sections, connect transitions, and preserve purpose in every movement.

Stick combination

Both sides, partners, added layers

Practice three count on both sides with partners, then add mountain, valley, and level change.

Self-defense

Two responses to the same-side wrist grab

Response 1: use the other hand as taught, step back, release toward the thumb side, then backfist, ridge hand, knee strike, and the instructor-taught choke portion. Response 2: same-side wrist lock. Develop partner applications during supervised class.

BEYOND THE BELT · THIS CYCLE’S LIFE SKILL

Connect skill with thoughtful judgment.

Experience brings the opportunity to be more intentional. Prepare before performing, recognize where a correction matters, and choose a respectful response even when frustrated.

AT HOME, TRY SAYING

“What is the purpose of this choice, and what will I adjust?”

NOTICE THE LITTLE WINS

Look for connected technique, honest self-assessment, and consistent follow-through on feedback.

A LITTLE PRACTICE AT HOME.

Choose four 15-20-minute sessions each week and plan them around class and PT. Repeat A, B, C and D to include all four curriculum sections and Beyond the Belt. Choose a comfortable pace and use focused solo practice to build memory and control.

  1. A · KICKS + FORMReview grounded front kicks 1-5, then a short section of Po Eun. Focus on setup and control. Picture your jump-kick preparation and a balanced landing to reinforce the progressions you are learning in class.
  2. B · STICK COUNTS + SELF-DEFENSECount through three count on both sides, including mountain, valley and level change. Trace the pattern with open hands to build memory and control. For self-defense review, say and picture both wrist-grab response sequences.
  3. C · FORM + KICK REVIEWRevisit a short section of Po Eun and your grounded kick correction. Practice in small pieces, then picture each transition to strengthen your recall.
  4. D · RECALL + BEYOND THE BELTRecall your stick counts and self-defense sequence. Name one question for class. Practice pausing before a difficult response in daily life, then note the choice you made.

Use only movements your instructor has assigned for home. Keep practice gentle, with clear space and the supervision they recommend. If a solo version has not been taught, count, name, or picture the steps and bring your question to class. Leave sticks, targets, partner grabs, contact, locks, chokes, jumping, and spinning for supervised class. Never use a household object in place of training equipment.

PREPARE A LITTLE. BUILD A LOT.

PT preparation is part of getting ready for your next rank. The 12-week plan helps you build consistency with a starting-point check, gradual practice, recovery, and progress reviews. Work with your instructor to fit it around your classes.

At least 70% in each category. Scores are not averaged. Push-ups and sit-ups are untimed.

YOUR NEXT STEP.

Ask your instructor which skills are your priority right now and what readiness looks like for your next milestone. We’ll help you understand the expectations and recognize the progress you’re making.
